Is karma doing the UN’s job of finding justice?

In March 2022, the former U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, Dr. Mukesh Kapila, began to publish articles containing scandalous accounts of possible misconduct, mismanagement, probable fraud, and corruption perpetrated by the UNOPS Executive Director, the Deputy Executive Director, and UNOPS Senior Leadership Team members.

On May 08, 2022, the UNOPS Executive Director, who was already under investigation as of 2021, resigned.

The same UNOPS Senior Leadership Team whose misbehavior Mukesh Kapila exposed in 2022 (and others who already left this organization) trampled on the UN career, dignity, and self-worth of a former UNOPS staff member in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan between 2013 and 2015, when he refused to prioritize his self-interests over the work program that the founding fathers of the UN fixed in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Those senior UNOPS officials managed to use their authority to end the UN career of this former UNOPS staff member from the organization without any question raised whatsoever.

Many questions beg answers. For one, why, when this former UNOPS staff member (with his attorney) had his application to the UN judicial system in 2015-2017 loaded with arguments of abuse of power, wrongdoing, illicit finance, economic crime, and so on, propelled by UNOPS Senior Leadership Team members from 2013 to 2015, and which was not any less scandalous than the accounts Mukesh Kapila exposed in 2022, did the UN judicial system reject (dismiss) his application on technical grounds? But, in 2022, Mukesh Kapila, a whistleblower, manages, with the help of a few articles that the UN judicial system did not know existed for sure, to make the UN Secretary General, or the UN board that oversees UNOPS, disavow UNOPS leadership, which is one of the most powerful human development lynchpins of the United Nations system.

Throughout history, the fittest trampled on the weak and did not accord the weak fair access to justice. The lack of access to wealth, status, or power by this former UNOPS staff member (the weak) enabled the UNOPS senior leadership team members and the UN judicial system (the fittest) to trample on his UN career, dignity, and self-worth under their feet. This happened because it is not possible to expect “unmerciful servants” to have wisdom when the master is absent!

Surely, the changes that Mukesh Kapila is taking the lead to see never happen again at UNOPS are important, and I wholeheartedly applaud his commitment to make sure that the UN keeps on serving the fundamental goals for which the countries that won WW2 created this global council to serve. At the same time, I am sure Mukesh Kapila also knows that rushing to expose scandals within a system where most of its officials appear to be more anxious about reputation damage, personal jobs, and livelihoods, the bravery that this former UNOPS staff member showed and paid a big price for (i.e., when he put his faith in the integrity of his supervisors) carries implications that can be much bigger than the benefits he thinks his efforts to expose UN scandals are doing in the world.

To put it differently, the founding fathers of the UN counselled the victors of WW2 (i.e., the families/dynasties who control the international order and the money supply of the world) to have the government of each respective UN member state provide political, economic, and social solutions in the aftermath of WW2 in each sovereign state only. The victors of WW2 decided to deviate away from this counsel in the aftermath of WW2 and expanded the operations of the United Nations, preferring that two authorities start to provide parameters for everyday behavior in each UN member state. Those two are the United Nations and their respective governments.

The United Nations and respective governments are two personhoods that, apart from taking care of social problems, are also two units of authorities that the victors of WW2 use or depend on to teach people to accept order from whoever is above them in the hierarchy.

When scandals shake the United Nations, the damage that such disgraceful acts can have on the international rule-based postwar world order that the victors of WW2 laid out at the end of WW2 or rely on to keep their dominant power is immeasurable. This is because the families/dynasties that control the international order and the money supply of the world cannot keep their dominant power unrivaled when people (the poor) distrust the mindfulness of their respective governments and the United Nations to improve social justice at the same time.

In fact, when the former UNOPS senior leadership team members, UNOPS lawyers, and UN judges teamed up and bunkered under a mound of collective lies and cover-ups to deny this former UN staff member the right to indemnity for all their cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment (i.e., so he does not embarrass them), what that cabal was doing was totally unethical, but, in theory, they were saving the world from knowing additional instability.

That is to say, if the application that this former UNOPS staff filed with all the arguments of abuse of power, wrongdoing, illicit finance, and economic crime that were included in his application was admitted by the UN judicial system, and this news reached the principal countries that won WW2 (i.e., Great Britain and the United States) or rich countries that regularly make voluntary contributions to the United Nations, such as Norway, then there is a good chance that those countries would halt financing the United Nations. When rich countries such as Norway, for example, halt financing the United Nations, the world would stop being capable of using this formal organization as a tool to teach people to come together to accept order from whoever is above in the hierarchy, as this same process is done through the idea of government. When the world stops being capable of using the United Nations (the organization) as a tool to convince people that this global council is an important force for peace and human development, then the world could easily become engulfed in a new global war. If the world becomes engulfed in a new global war and the victors are not the countries that Norway, for example, is involved with in a complex web of allies and alliances, then the wheel would turn. When the wheel turns, “the last will be first, and the first will be last.” This is what happened to the UNOPS Senior Leadership Team when Mukesh Kapila exposed their wrongdoings!

The above example illustrates that exposing scandals at the United Nations is a serious and dangerous dilemma, best kept taboo to prevent consequences that could be even more detrimental. It is a Pandora’s box, and diverting attention to it, especially these days, is not in the best interests of everyone. This is because it would push the people who are already convinced that the United Nations is ineffective, biased, and corrupt to substantiate their perception.

On the other hand, it appears as if we live in a world that is capable of programming things contrary to the way one wishes. This force that controls the world is always striving to teach people that no one can hide the “truth.”

For example, when the former UNOPS staff member was against UNOPS approving projects that could embarrass the principal countries that won WW2, such as Great Britain, or the principal financiers of the United Nations, such as Norway, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Sudan, the UNOPS Senior Leadership Team members were not thinking like him. The UNOPS Senior Leadership Team members’ sole focus was centered on how to support the fact that he was useless and unfit and, most importantly, how to stop him from continuing with his job so the organization could gain the fistful of dollars they were expecting from the projects they would be signing. Evidently, the UNOPS Senior Leadership Team members, UNOPS lawyers, UNOPS investigators, and UN judges all got their wish accomplished when they managed to expel this former UN staff member from UNOPS and even bury his grievances in the dustbins of the United Nations judicial system forever.

Unfortunately, the force that programs things in this world prepared something different for UNOPS senior leadership team members, UNOPS lawyers, and UNOPS investigators in 2022. This force arranged that the things that UNOPS senior officials have would be taken away from them, and whoever does not have them (i.e., the former UNOPS official who they wronged) would be given more.

No one knows how the countries that exercise oversight over the United Nations (i.e., the organization) plan to address the damages that the poor understanding of this organization’s senior officials of their mission (and in particular, UNOPS officials) will have on the international rule-based postwar world order.

Luckily, only the families/dynasties that control the international order or the money supply of the world (i.e., the victors of WW2) need to figure out how to address the damages that the poor understanding of UNOPS senior leadership team members of their mission or their supervisors has perpetrated. This is because only those families/dynasties that control the United Nations would gain or lose if this formal international intergovernmental organization fulfilled the hopes of its principal founders or not. We, the common people, are not the ones who would be paying a price if the administrators of this organization drove it to become obsolete, as happened to its predecessor, the League of Nations, in the course of time and things.

On the other hand, humans have been converting the international social order into an experimental theater throughout history. If the families or dynasties that control the international order and the global money supply believe they can create UN agencies that function as shadow governments in UN member states while still establishing a responsible approach to public financing, then they would have achieved something that religion has failed to accomplish since mankind developed this controlling methodology.

That is to say, if the families/dynasties who control the international order or the money supply of the world believe they can make the formal international intergovernmental organization named the United Nations operate just as companies (or most governments) on the outside of the UN fence do and still manage to make people love them (obey them), then definitely God and all his prophets are going to be the first ones to felicitate them.

Said differently, if the families/dynasties who control the international order or the money supply of the world believe they can have UN agencies finance their operations by teaming up directly with member governments, corporations, and private individuals, or if they allow UN agencies to do as UNOPS is doing as of 2015 by “teaming up with the private sector for profit by operating like an investment bank” and still manage to keep their power, wealth, and status intact, then either those powerful families/dynasties believe they are invincible or their dominant power stopped being of paramount importance to them.

Of course, we should not forget that the victors of WW2 (i.e., the families/dynasties that control the international order or the money supply of the world) could be programming to establish a single political authority for all humanity. Hence, this is what motivated them to stop wanting to have governments legitimize and enforce natural and legal rights in UN member states only in favor of creating UN agencies and having them operate as shadow governments for actual governments in UN member states. In any case, no matter what the victors of WW2 program, it will not be possible for them to create a complete structure of a world order under law for as long as people are in the business of using the misfortune of each other to solidify their power and/or are using division of labor to dominate each other instead of providing practical results.

In conclusion, irrespective of what the families/dynasties who control the international order or the money supply of the world are planning for their heirs or the world, we should just be grateful to them for giving mankind an opportunity to reduce fear and want through the intermediary of the liberal interventionism and self-determination philosophy in the aftermath of WW2, which is a milestone unheard of in the history of humanity. This means it is incumbent on each one of us to ensure that the war aims that those powerful families/dynasties fixed at the end of WW2 succeed so mankind does not go back to living as was the case before WW2 erupted under domination, exploitation, and subjugation. Of course, the final say on how the international order will evolve will be something that the United Nations system’s ongoing efforts to teach people to be tolerant will decide. This is because teaching people to be tolerant is a prerequisite to establishing afterwards “conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained.”

Furthermore, hence the scandals that Mukesh Kapila exposed in 2022 do not support the idea that the economic and social advancement strategies that the United Nations is determining and enforcing are helping the victors of WW2 to keep their dominant role and prevent mankind from returning to living under domination as was the case before WW2 erupted, it would be imperative that the United Nations disprove for them (the victors of WW2) the proverb that says that “one reaps what one sows” to prevent it (the organization) from making them experience the same kind of bad things that its senior officials caused the former UNOPS staff to experience when he was preserving their interests. This is because if the victors of WW2 (i.e., the administrators of the United Nations) end up experiencing the same kind of bad things that they allowed the UNOPS senior officials to cause the former UNOPS staff to experience when he was striving to preserve the UN financial rules and regulations, the consequences of already bad actions will be even worse.

For example, when the former UNOPS employee’s career, dignity, and self-worth were being trampled on under the feet of the UNOPS Senior Leadership Team, UNOPS lawyers, UNOPS investigators, and UN judges because he refused to have UNOPS approve projects that could embarrass the United Nations or his country (the United States), the number of UNOPS officials who were trampling on his dignity under their feet did not exceed a dozen. To the contrary, after the New York Times picked up the UNOPS scandals, which Mukesh Kapila exposed, it is now the people of the entire world who are trampling on the United Nations under their feet and, in particular, on the UNOPS Senior Leadership Team, UNOPS lawyers, and UNOPS auditors and investigators!

Most importantly, if we read the application of this former UNOPS staff member, which the UN judicial system rejected, no person can but ask him to walk with his head high. To the contrary, if we read the articles that Mukesh Kapila published about UNOPS, no person can but say that until the end of time, the entire United Nations system, and in particular, the UNOPS senior leadership team, UNOPS lawyers, and UNOPS auditors and investigators, would be walking with their heads buried in the sand!

Indeed, the articles that Mukesh Kapila published prove that people can trample on the weak and bury their wrongdoing, but they cannot bury the proverb that says, “What goes around comes around.”

As a final word, I hope that the UNOPS Executive Board, which consists of a group of member states that includes the United States, has the vision needed to ask the United Nations (the organization) to compensate all those whom UNOPS senior leadership members wronged, starting with this former UNOPS staff member who chose to drop the offer of UNOPS lawyers to give him a two-year retainer contract, including regulating his pension, health insurance, and so forth, preferring to live without them since his retirement in 2015 for his fear of the impact of him prioritizing his self-interests on weakening the stability of countries around the world like Norway.

Last but not least, I hope that the families/dynasties that control the international order or the money supply of the world know that there are two types of sand in nature. Ordinary sand and quicksand. That is to say, there is a big difference between walking on ordinary sand and quicksand. It is very difficult to walk on quicksand because a person constantly sinks, and the “mucky nuisance” encountered while sinking can lead to death from dehydration.

For this reason, I can only hope that the decision of the families/dynasties who control the international order or the money supply of the world to let the United Nations System improve human rights and reduce fear and want through the intermediary of UN self-financing agencies does not sink them with their two principal global policemen (Great Britain and the United States) in quicksand. This situation is because the way the United Nations System seems to be taking care of social problems on their behalf since the fall of the Soviet Union in particular appears to be making people love them (i.e., love their liberal interventionism and self-determination philosophy) for the wrong reason!
